Words And Pictures Trailer

Jack Marcus is an eccentric English teacher at a prep school in the country who used to be intensely passionate about his line of work. However, over the years he has become increasingly demotivated by his students' lack of zest; they're well-behaved and polite, but not enthusiastic enough for Jack who spends most of his time drinking away his troubles when he's not working. The school has just employed a new art teacher called Dina Delsanto, who is also bitter about how her life has turned out considering she was once one of the top abstract artists in her field. Jack is facing losing his job if his performance review suffers, but he finds himself deeply attracted to Dina and filled with a new passion as he sets out to prove to the haughty artist that words are much more meaningful than pictures. As the two engage in a creative battle, it seems their lives are quickly becoming reinvigorated.

Last Orders Review

Very Good
It's a shame there are so few films out that realistically portray male bonding, possibly for fear of assuming an underlying current of latent homosexuality. The oft-neglected theme is pleasantly explored in Last Orders, a journey of three old pals who must bury the fourth of their circle. Unfortunately, while admirable in intent, it also follows several predictable plot patterns that are only saved by the talented cast.

Jack (Michael Caine) has recently died, leaving in his wake a widow, two children, and three close friends. His last wish is that lifelong companions Vic (Tom Courtenay), Lenny (David Hemmings), and Ray (Bob Hoskins) throw him out to sea at the honeymoon spot he shared with wife Amy (Helen Mirren). His son, Vince (Ray Winstone), joins them.

A Cry In The Dark Review

Excellent
The true story of Lindy Chamberlain, a severe and embittered woman who was found innocent, then guilty, then innocent of murdering her child in the Australian outback in 1980. Her excuse: "The dingo took my baby." The case divided the nation of Australia for a decade, putting people in camps that believed the impossible -- that a wild dog ate a child -- or the unthinkable -- that her mother murdered her daughter. A Cry in the Dark is a tragic story that Meryl Streep (as Lindy) completely owns. But while it's very much a cautionary tale to keep your tent zipped up, the real moral of the story involves the crucial importance of being a sympathetic witness on the stand. Based on the book Evil Angels.
