Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos will lecture Edinburgh University students about the power of Scottish music next month (02FEB05).

The Scots TAKE ME OUT star will discuss the country's part in 21st Century music for a series of lectures organised by EDINBURGH CITY COUNCIL.

Lord Provost for Edinburgh LESLEY HINDS says, "I hope Kapranos will introduce a new generation to The Edinburgh Lectures.

"I hope that the input from Alex, who is at the cutting edge of popular culture, will capture the imagination of Edinburgh's young people."

Edinburgh University has previously hosted guest lecturers PROFESSOR Stephen Hawking and former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
