British music stars from bands including Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons and The Zutons have paid tribute to late American rocker/painter CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, who died on Friday (17Dec10).
The 69 year old - real name Don Van Vliet - passed away at a hospital in California after suffering complications from multiple sclerosis, and a number of musicians have taken to the internet to honour their hero.
Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos, who has credited the late star with influencing his own band, paid tribute in a message on Twitter.com, posting a link to one of Beefheart's songs and writing, "Oh no. RIP Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart."
And when a fan asked whether Beefheart was "an influence" Kapranos added, "Very much so."
Klaxons' Jamie Reynolds simply wrote "God bless" on his Twitter page, while The Zutons frontman Dave MCCabe added, "RIP The Captain Don Van Vliet... I know it's late but it's gotta be said hasn't it. (He) really will be missed by all fans across the globe."
