Jennifer Preston is a journalist hoping to get to the bottom of a tragic explosion that occurred in a nightclub on New Year's Eve a month previously; a disaster that killed over 230 people and caused toxic waste from an underground weapons facility to spread five square miles into the city. A large portion of the city is now under strict quarantine; no-one is allowed in or out. The only problem is, a strange phenomenon has taken a hold of those within the quarantine zone spreading horror and violence throughout. Preston and her bereaved detective friend Levis Mathis are determined to discover the root of the explosion, especially since the latter lost his daughter to the blast, but the authorities aren't prepared to help them. And time is running out as they begin to find themselves affected by the dark happenings.

Major William Cage is a soldier who is thrust into an impossible battle when the world is taking over by an advanced and brutal army of aliens called Mimics. He teams up with feisty Special Forces soldier Rita Vrataski but, unsurprisingly, they and the rest of the military force attacking the intergalactic threat are almost immediately wiped out. However, Cage wakes up and finds himself back to where he started having just been recruited, with the deadly battle still ahead of them. When he later dies again in a different way and subsequently re-awakens, he realises that this day will be on a loop presenting him with a unique opportunity to grow stronger and more able to defeat the global enemy with the help of Vrataski as each day passes by.

There is a difference, however: Tessa has leukaemia. She was diagnosed with it four years ago but has recently learned that it is terminal.

On her way home in South London, trainee nurse Sam (Whittaker) is mugged by Moses (Boyega), who is then attacked by a small ape-like creature that has fallen from the sky. After killing it, Moses and his pals take it to the 19th floor flat of their drug dealer (Frost), who's working for the unstable mobster Hi-Hatz (Hunter). But things escalate from here, as an army of larger wolf-gorilla creatures with glowing teeth descend on the block. And Sam needs to team up with her tormenters and a local stoner (Treadaway) to fight them off.

Why would aliens invade a housing estate in south London? That's the question a gang of youths find themselves asking one and other when that very thing happens in their neighbourhood. As Sam, a trainee nurse, walks home through the dark streets near her flat she's attacked and mugged by some street kids, fearing for her safety luckily the kids become distracted when they see a bright object fall to earth. Exploring the wreckage, they're attacked by a small yet fiece creature which they manage to kill.
