Frank Ocean

The very long-awaited return of Frank Ocean has taken another tantalising and frustrating turn, with the singer hosting a mysterious live stream on the day after he missed his self-imposed July deadline for the release of his new album Boys Don’t Cry.

Hosted on a specially designed site boysdontcry.co that only seems to work on Safari browsers or on mobiles, a stream appeared at about 8:30am (GMT) on Monday (August 1st) showing an empty warehouse in black and white with desks and equipment lined up against the back wall.

Did Frank Ocean Just Hold A Secret Album Party?

Frank Ocean

The rumour mill has been put into steady motion by talk of an impending new album from New Orleans rapper Frank Ocean, as reports reveal that he held a very exclusive listening party in New York over the weekend (February 28th 2016). Videos were put online, but officials have been very quick to remove all traces of the leak.

Frank OceanIs Frank Ocean hiding some new music from us?

Reports have come in claiming that Ocean debuted some new music at a secret location, with short snippets of two apparently new songs being shared online. There's no evidence that they are from Ocean, but they allegedly sound very much like him singing. If circumstances surrounding this VIP gathering are true, we could be expecting the long overdue follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2012 album 'Channel Orange' very soon.

Chris Brown, Sexuality And Chipotle: The Rise Of Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean’s career has certainly been on the rise in the past few years since releasing his debut album ‘Channel Orange’ in 2012, to much critical acclaim and recognition. Since then he’s been attempting to break down barriers of homophobia in hip hop as well as having spats with Chris Brown and more recently Chipotle. So what have the past few years been like for the rising hip hop star?

Frank OceanGrammy award winner, Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean was born Christopher Breaux and grew up in New Orleans Louisiana, he started his recording career early before being derailed in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit the city and destroyed his studio. In order to continue with his musical ambitions, Frank moved to Los Angeles and began to forge a career in the hip hop scene. Originally he was signed as a songwriter, working with artists such as Beyonce and Justin Bieber. Then in 2009 he joined Tyler the Creator’s hip hop collective Odd Future and was eventually signed as a solo artist to Def Jam recordings.

Frank Ocean Gives Profane Cheque To Chipotle. What Did He Expect Though?

Frank Ocean

It’s difficult not to like Frank Ocean. He tells big corporations to “f*ck off” when giving back huge advance cheques; he makes good music and he’s helping to break down the barriers of homophobia in R&B and Rap in his songs by addressing the issue.

Frank OceanLook how much Frank Ocean cares. Look at him.

Let’s start from the beginning. Chipotle – the fast food Mexican chain - wanted Ocean to sing a remake of the Willy Wonka song, Pure Imagination. All was well; the advert would promote responsible framing (as it sort of still does, as you can see below) and Ocean would lend his mellifluous tones to it.

Torn Vocal Cord Forces Frank Ocean To Cancel Australian Tour

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean’s Australian tour, which was scheduled to go on through to the end of July, has now been cancelled.

The singer was scheduled to play three more dates, with the main one being his gig at Splendour on the Grass this Sunday. Unfortunately, that show, along with the two remaining Australian gigs – at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Monday and Tuesday – have also been cancelled, due to a tear in the singer’s vocal cord.

Frank Ocean played two new songs to a sold out gig at London's O2 Academy in Brixton. He performed on Tuesday (July 9th) and opened his set with 'Feel California', a new song which he wanted to test out with the crowd whilst he was on tour. According to NME, the singer asked the crowd to "bear with me" before playing yet another new song, thought to be called 'Anything For You'.

50 Acts Announced For Live Music Day Festival

Frank Ocean Kate Nash

MTV, CMT and VH1 – some of the biggest musical abbreviations in the world there folks – are coming together for their 24-hour Live Music Day Festival, with more than 50 acts included on the line-up, that will be run in conjunction with Viacom’s O Music Awards.

Before you all get packing your tents and wellies though, we’re not sure that this is actually a festival in the physical drink too much dodgy cider and wind up getting your soul healed by some dodgy self-proclaimed druid variety. In keeping with the way things are going in 2013, it appears to be a virtual festival, with music fans able to tune into performances on their mobiles and laptops. Anyway, among these 50 acts announced for this festival include Atlas Genius, 2AM Club, Hanson, Gavin DeGraw, Kate Nash and Matt Nathanson are just a few of the acts; if those names don’t get your anticipation levels pulsing then … well it’s fair enough really.

The O Music Awards celebrate the best in digital music and feature categories like Best Music App, Most Inspiring Fan Outreach and Best Artist Instagram. Among those up for some awards include Frank Ocean, who is honored with two nominations this year - Must Follow Artist on Twitter and Too Much Ass for TV - while Justin Bieber has garnered a nomination for Fan Army FTW. Prestigious.

Awards ceremonies are supposed to make you laugh. They’re supposed to make you cry. They’re supposed to make you angry. They’re supposed to shock the living daylights out of you. They are supposed to provide some serious ‘water cooler’ moments for you to talk about at work the next day. Did The Brits do any of these things? Did they heck. The most animated we got last night was when we managed to muster up the energy to actually yawn.

Super Rich Kids: Frank Ocean Album No.2 On The Way, Already

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean has lifted the lid on preparations for the follow-up to his hugely acclaimed debut solo album Channel Orange, with the star also hinting at some collaborations that he’ll be getting involved in further down the line.

"I'm like what, 10, 11 songs into this next thing," he said to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio One. "I don't know what to tell you other than that it's another cohesive thing bordering on a concept record again. At the end of Channel Orange, there's 'Golden Girl' and this beach scene, and I want to extend that feeling to the next record altogether to make it that theme. So I'm going to Bora Bora when I get back ... and work for a few weeks."

Moving on to potential collaboration work, Ocean mentioned Danger Mouse, but also somewhat surprisingly Tame Impala. "I'm getting in with Danger Mouse when I get back to the States," he said. "Usually when I meet those guys, we'll sit. If we happen to write something, we do. It's just cool to feel it out first. It has to be right just as far as chemistry goes. But I love Tame Impala. Tyler [The Creator] put me on to Tame Impala." The news is refreshing, especially given various reports last year that suggested he wasn’t even sure when he was planning a follow-up, if at all.

Wireless Festival Moves To The Queen's Olympic Park With Justin Timberlake And Jay-Z To Headline

Justin Timberlake Jay Z Rita Ora Calvin Harris Snoop Dogg Frank Ocean Kendrick Lamar Emeli Sande John Legend Dj Fresh

It has been said over and over, but 2013 truly is the year of the comeback. Justin Timberlake has been going all out on his return to music and having unveiled the first track of his new album, The 20/20 Experience, 'Suit and Tie' with Jay Z, his musical resurrection was nothing short of a revelation. Continuing to keep up the momentum JT will be headlining London's Wireless Festival in the Queen's Olympic Park this summer, along with Jay.

As the Guardian reports, the prior venue for the urban festival - Hyde Park - had suffered with noise complaints. At the Queen's Olympic Park (where the Olympics were held), there's few more appropriately grand locales for the festival. If you were excited about the headliners, the rest of the acts will delight you too; Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, Emeli Sandé. Snoop Dogg, John Legend, Calvin Harris, Dj Fresh and Rita Ora, are just the tip of the iceberg.

With such great acts, there's a price to go with it. For two days you'll be paying £110, or £57.50 for just either the Friday or the Saturday. Solo tours for many of the performers could reach £50 easily, so it's excellent value for money. They go on sale on Friday morning so snap them up while you can.

Why Did Frank Ocean Not Win More At The Grammys?

Frank Ocean Chris Brown Mumford And Sons Gotye

Frank Ocean and Chris Brown provided an interesting subplot at The Grammys; the latter refusing to stand up and applaud his counterpart when he won Best Urban Contemporary Album, but for us, the real story is Ocean’s lack of awards.

Alright, he did win two – that last one and as part of as part of the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration prize – but leading up to the awards, Ocean was mooted to take more than that. Epic-folk perpetuators Mumford & Sons picked up album of the year for their effort, Babel, which is a decision we can’t quite believe. Channel ORANGE was unanimously praised, and even broke new boundaries, suggesting that someone involved in hip hop, RnB and rap might be gay. Ocean deserved album of the year. Best New Artist is another category we can’t get our head around, and for the reasons listed under best album, we think Ocean deserved this one too. Record of The Year we can just about understand. Thinkin’ Bout You isn’t Ocean’s best track, and 'Somebody That I Used to Know' - Gotye Featuring Kimbra is a deserved winner.

So Mr. Ocean will have to make do with one major award, but given his prodigious talent, we predict that next year he’ll clean up song and album of the year easily. Unfortunately, the best new artist gong has passed him by forever.

Rihanna And Chris Brown Show The World They're Happy At The Grammys

Rihanna Chris Brown Frank Ocean Jay Z

Some artists performed; some won awards, but the real story from the Grammys 2013 was the way Rihanna and Chris Brown were flaunting their newly reconciled relationship.

Adored by many, Rihanna could do no wrong until she decided to get back together with Chris Brown – the man who was convicted for beating her back in 2009. And Brown further justified his levied disdain by refusing to stand and applaud Frank Ocean, whose official studio debut, channel ORANGE, won best urban contemporary album, beating out Brown’s effort in the category. The pair recently had a ruckus in a parking lot, reportedly over a parking space. Now why would you want to be with this guy, Rihanna? Well, she told Rolling Stone that “Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake,” late last month. “After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it." The night before The Grammys (2013), Brown crashed his car, escaping with minor injuries. He blamed the paparazzi for chasing him.

Ocean also won best rap/sung collaboration for 'No Church In the Wild' with West, Jay-Z and The-Dream in what was ultimately a disappointing night for the Odd Future star. He was nominated for six categories and was favourite for at least four of them.

Un'Fortune'ate! Chris Brown Refuses To Stand As He Loses Out To Frank Ocean At Grammys

Frank Ocean Chris Brown Miguel Adele Ed Sheeran

Frank Ocean's Grammy win was met with remote indifference from fellow R&B star Chris Brown as he failed to rise from his seat at the awards ceremony last night (February 10th 2013).

Chris Brown was unlucky at the Grammy awards as he lost out on an Urban Contemporary Album accolade for his last effort 'Fortune' to his rival Frank Ocean with his debut album 'Channel Orange'. As Ocean was announced the victor in that category, Brown seemed to do a double take before hastily applauding, though he can be seen resolutely sitting as Ocean took to the stage to accept his award.

Of course, the pair haven't exactly been getting on like a house on fire recently. In January, there was an altercation between the two of them over a parking space outside a West Hollywood recording studio whereby Brown punched Ocean, with one of his team allegedly threatened to shoot him. Ocean, however, decided against pressing charges.

Nightmare For The-Dream As Headwear Receives More Attention Than Grammy Win

The-Dream Jay Z Frank Ocean Kanye West

One of the showstoppers at last night’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles was superstar producer The-Dream – though not for the reasons that he was maybe hoping for.

The 35 year-old – real name Terius Nash – was among the winners last night as his team-up with Jay Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean on Hova and Yeezy’s Watch The Throne track ‘No Church In The Wild’ won best rap/sung collaboration. Nash hit the stage with a suit-wearing Jay Z and Frank Ocean to accept the award, but it was his own clothing that drew most attention – most specifically his Boyz n’ The Hood cap. "I would like to thank the swap meet for his hat," Jay Z joked about the cap, that looked inspired by LA’s popular 80’s and 90’s teen hangout and retail area, the Slauson Swap Meet.

Afterwards The-Dream couldn’t get away from questions about the piece of headwear – which he’d worn over a woolly hat which bore the design of the ‘Parental Advisory’ logo that marks every album which contains profanity. Giving into the questions, the producer commented “Everybody’s asking. He likes to make fun of me,” adding that he got the cap at mall retailer Spencer’s. “[It’s] a really bad store for the young people” said, according to The Los Angeles Times. The big winners of the night were Mumford & Sons, who took home album of the years, and The Black Keys, who won four awards on the night.

Grammys Preview: Taylor Swift Plans To Avoid Carrie Underwood, Why?

Taylor Swift Carrie Underwood Frank Ocean Fun Mumford And Sons

Though Frank Ocean is going to win every award, it might be worth tuning in to the Grammy Awards this Sunday (February 10, 2013) if only to witness the possibility that Taylor Swift might bump into fellow country star Carrie Underwood. According to an insider, Grammy executives have been ordered to keep Swift, 23, and Underwood, 29, "from crossing paths." Their reason? "They hate each other!"

The feud appears to have begun when Underwood and Brad Paisley mocked Swift's split from Conor Kenned while hosting the Country Music Association Awards in November. "The greatest trade of the year had to be the Kennedy family. They somehow traded Arnold Schwarzenegger for Taylor Swift," Paisley joked about Swift dating the 65-year-old bodybuilder's nephew through marriage. When Underwood whispered in his ear that the young couple had split up, Paisley feigned disbelief "What? Why don't I ever hear about these things?...I'm the last one to know. Are they ever gonna get back together?" Underwood, of course, said, "Never, ever." The whole thing was rather cringe-worthy, but was enough to get Taylor's back up, according to the insider. A source close to the singer - known for writing songs about her failed relationships - told US Weekly magazine, "Taylor feels Carrie is always rude to her, so she steer clear of her."

It's set to be a big night for Swift in particular, who will open the show at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday." What's interesting is we presented this performance to the Grammy committee . . . and they said, 'Okay, cool, you have a performance spot.' And then like a week ago they call us and are like, 'Oh, by the way, you're opening the show," Swift told Ryan Seacrest Thursday. Despite her prominent live slot, it's unlikely that Swift will walk away with anything too prestigious at the biggest night in music, with Frank Ocean, Fun, Mumford & Sons and Goyte likely to lead the charge for the major prizes.

Parker Lawsuit: Chris Brown Vs Frank Ocean Is Proof Brown Can't Be Trusted, Says Tony Parker

Chris Brown Frank Ocean Tony Parker Drake

Chris Brown’s recent bust-up with Frank Ocean seems to have worked in Tony Parker’s favour. The NBA star was injured in a New York nightclub last year when a fight broke out between Chris Brown and Drake and their respective entourages. Parker ended up with a shard of glass piercing his cornea and he’s suing W.i.P nightclub for $20 million damages. Hearing about Chris Brown’s recent spat (apparently over a parking spot) has strengthened Parker’s case, TMZ reports, as he claims it’s further proof that the R&B star can’t be trusted to socialise in places that he’s liable to fly off the handle.

According to the TMZ report, Parker has filed new legal documents claiming that the nightclub should not have let Chris Brown into the club whilst Drake’s posse were there. Parker reckons that Brown’s latest outburst just goes to show that he’s a liability and that the security should have been tighter at the club. Both Chris Brown and Drake have been romantically linked to Rihanna and it’s no secret that there’s bad blood between the two musicians. Parker reckons the fight should have been avoided by preventing Chris from entering the club in the first place.

Chris Brown has a history of violent outbursts to his name. Most notably, he assaulted his girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, on the eve of the Grammy Awards. They separated but have recently reconciled their relationship. Though it appears Brown isn’t doing a very good job of turning over any new leaves, with the bust ups between Drake and Frank Ocean still hanging over his head.

'I'll Choose Sanity': Frank Ocean Forgives Chris Brown For Brawl

Frank Ocean Chris Brown

We now have one more reason to love Frank Ocean even more. Forget that he has the voice of an angel, or that he's the 21st century version of Blake in the sheer beauty of his lyricism, forget even that he came out publicly in a hip-hop environment that can often be phallocentric and homophobic. Frank Ocean has opted to do Chris Brown a solid and not press charges. What a nice guy!

On January 27th last week, Brown and Ocean ended up in a fight, which seemed to leave Brown's hand in bandages when seen the following day. According to reports Ocean and Brown met in the parking lot of a recording studio in West Hollywood as Brown was exiting. He wasn't arrested at the scene because, as witness claimed, Brown fled.

Brown really can't do with another criminal conviction as he's still on probation for beating his then girlfriend (and now girlfriend again) Rihanna the night before the Grammys in 2009.

Frank Ocean Pressing Charges Could Prove Costly For Chris Brown

Chris Brown Frank Ocean Rihanna

Frank Ocean is reportedly set to press charges against Chris Brown following a scuffle that occurred outside a recording studio in Los Angeles this week. A source tells TMZ.com that Brown tried to shake Ocean's hand but the Odd Future man refused it. "Chris was so pissed he coldcocked Ocean and started an all-out war," the insider added.

Steve Whitmore, from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, tells the New York Daily News that Frank Ocean is "desirous of prosecution," adding, "We'll find out what happened." Neither party has added to their initial musings on Twitter and Instagram, with Ocean claiming he was "jumped" by Brown and his crew and may not be able to perform at the Grammys. Brown Instagrammed an image of Jesus Christ on the cross and captioned it, "Painting the way I feel today. Focus on what matters!"

Should Brown be arrested and found guilty of assault, it could prove disastrous for his legal team, who have attempted to keep him out of trouble following his vicious attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He still remains on probation for the incident and only narrowly avoided a court case following last year's fight with Drake in New York.

Chris Brown And Frank Ocean Fight... Over A Parking Space

Chris Brown Frank Ocean

Chris Brown and Frank Ocean have reportedly got themselves into a fight with each other in LA outside a recording studio.

It's difficult to find a parking space in any city, but if you're Chris Brown and thousands of people across the world hate you for beating your girlfriend, you'd think you might just let a slight altercation over a decent spot to leave your car in LA slide, rather than letting it escalate to the point that police were called. Brown hasn't been known to make good decisions though, so this is precisely what happened between him and Frank Ocean at a recording studio in LA.

TMZ first broke the story, which said that a source said "Frank Ocean and his crew" blocked the passage out of the studio for Chris, saying "This is my studio, this is my parking spot." Then, when Chris went to shake Frank's hand, one of Frank's people threw the first punch. By this reckoning, Chris is the victim in the whole shibang, but according to TMZ, the police are referring to Ocean as the 'victim' because he's the one that stuck around to discuss the events. Plus, general consensus surrounding Brown isn't particularly favourable at the moment, and hasn't been since 2009.

Frank Ocean Is 'Jumped' By Chris Brown In Recording Studio Car Park

Chris Brown Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean says he was jumped by Chris Brown and "a couple of guys," in the car park of the Westlake Recording studio in Los Angeles on Sunday evening (January 27, 2013). Police were called to the premises, where Ocean was nursing an injured hand.

"Got jumped by Chris and a couple of guys. lol," Ocean tweeted, adding: "Cut my hand now I can't play with two hands at the grammys." According to TMZ.com, insiders close to Brown say Ocean started the brawl after blocking Rihanna's ex-flame in the car park. The Odd Future alum is alleged to have said "This is my studio, this is my parking spot," with "one of Frank's people," attacking Brown when he went to shake hands with Ocean. Clearly the account contradicts Frank's version of events, though police are currently investigating the incident.

It's not the first time the two singers have fallen out, with Brown accused of aiming a homophobic slur towards Ocean, who came out as gay earlier last year. Brown denied it, posting, "My Opinion on the whole Frank Ocean subject is ......... Love who u wanna love. It's ur decision. People stop searching for BS."

Nme Awards 2013 Nominations Announced

Male Heavy Nominations For NME's Heroes And Villains Inc. Bradley Wiggins, Barack Obama, David Cameron And Harry Styles

Frank Ocean Barack Obama Harry Styles David Cameron Pussy Riot Azealia Banks Dave Grohl Bradley Wiggins David Bowie Skrillex Psy

The NME awards isn't just to praise the biggest and best bands of the year, it is also a platform for popular social commentary, and for a hefty dose of good humored judgement. The categories of Heroes and Villains are a tidy round up of the stars that have done the best and worst work over the year.

This year's Villain nominations include the obvious choice of David Cameron, but he's facing stiff competition in the form of Harry Styles, Skrillex, Psy, Fred Macpherson and Azealia Banks. Styles being in One Direction (nominated for worst band) is reason enough to be in the list, and Azealia Banks tweeted feud with fellow female rapper Angel Haze in which she used a homophobic slur against Haze certainly makes her a baddy. But as for Fred Macpherson's appearance in the list, we can't quite work out why he's been included, Spector aren't that bad.

The Hero's list is a far better list and there's no question as to why any of the nominees are included. Dave Grohl brought Nirvana back with the help of Paul McCartney - even if you don't agree with the choice of McCartney, it was a great feat, and Grohl never fails to give his all to music and to an enormous range of bands. Pussy Riot went to prison for speaking openly about LGBT and feminist topics. Frank Ocean brazenly came out in a predominantly heterosexual and largely homophobic hip hop community during 2012, confessing to having fallen in love with a man. Bradley Wiggins is Bradley Wiggins. Barack Obama is Barack Obama. And David Bowie is back. Happy days.

'Channel Orange' Lands GLAAD Award For Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean has been nominated for a GLAAD award, for his album Channel Orange.

Last year, Ocean made a statement regarding his sexuality, just prior to the release of his debut album. In the statement, the Odd Future collaborator revealed that his first love was with another man. The statement was well-received in the hip-hop community, which has a reputation for its underlying homophobia, in many sectors.

R&B star Beyonce and Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears were amongst those who lent their support to Ocean and now, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation have given the singer / songwriter the nod for his acclaimed album. According to the BBC, he faces competition from Scissor Sisters, Gossip and Adam Lambert in the Outstanding Music category, as part of the awards which aim to recognise positive representation of gay, bisexual and transgender people in the media. Other nominees in the awards include the movies Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Cloud Atlas and the Perks of Being A Wallflower. In the television category, Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family and Glee were all given a nod.

"Hi Guys, I Smoke Pot": Frank Ocean Explains New Year’s Eve Arrest

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean ended 2012 with a spot of legal drama, when he was stopped by cops for speeding on New Year’s Eve, and a small amount of marijuana was discovered in his car. Ocean’s clearly not big on ‘learning from his mistakes,’ as he was actually stopped for speeding the day before, on the very same stretch of road in California, but travelling in the opposite direction.

When the cops pulled the 25 year-old R&B star over, they could smell marijuana in the car and after a search, found a “small bag of marijuana in his possession,” according to BBC News. He had been driving 90mph (145kph) in a 65mph (105kph) area. As if speeding a drug possession weren’t enough, though, Frank was also warned that he could be fined for driving on a suspended license and for having tinted front windows. His license was taken away from him and Frank was unable to drive home, so a friend of the singer, who was in the car with him, had to drive the car away. His representative, Heathcliff Berru, reportedly declined to comment on the incident.

Frank seemed relatively nonplussed by the whole ordeal, if his Twitter page was anything to go by and he certainly wasn’t going to be drawn into any public apology. “hi guys, i smoke pot. ok guys, bye” came the tweet from Frank in response to news reports of the situation. Well, that clears that up, then.

Frank Ocean's Django Unchained Track Released Via The Singer's Tumblr

Frank Ocean Quentin Tarantino Jamie Foxx Rick Ross

Quentin Tarantino rejecting his song hasn't deterred Frank Ocean from wanting the public to hear it. Currently untitled - but rumoured to be called Wiseman - the track can be found on Ocean's own Tumblr site.

Tarantino, in a statement, explained why he chose not to include the Odd Future star's song in his new movie. "Frank Ocean wrote a fantastic ballad that was truly lovely and poetic in every way," he explained, "there just wasn't a scene for it. I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that's not why he wrote it and not his intention. So I didn't want to cheapen his effort. But, the song is fantastic, and when Frank decides to unleash it on the public, they'll realize it then." Instead, the film's score will feature new tracks from Rick Ross with the film's star, Jamie Foxx, as well as Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, and legendary composer Ennio Morricone, plus 2Pac and James Brown. Tarantino himself collaborated with musicians on several of the tracks, as well as the film's score.

This isn't the first statement the legendary filmmaker has had to make to appease fans. In response to myriad complaints at the use of the 'N-word', Tarantino said, "I think it's kind of ridiculous (the criticism), because no one can actually say with a straight face that we use the word more than it was used in 1858 in Mississippi. So since they can't say that, what they're basically (saying) is I should lie. I should pretty it up. I should lie, and I don't lie when it comes to my characters and the stories I tell."

Frank Ocean's 'Channel Orange' Is The Best Of 2012, But Music Isn't His Only Plan

Frank Ocean

It's not only his lyrics that are intelligent, Frank Ocean speaks in a system of cleverly and swiftly thought out analogies.

Talking to the Guardian about whether awards are important to him, after receiving 6 Grammy nominations, as well as topping the Guardian's list of albums for 2012, he said: "It's like a player in any ball league... you come up in these systems of organisation, and you can hate the league but, at the end of the day, you can't hate the championship. Music industry people... that's the game I came up in. The Grammys are like the championship, and that's cool." Adding, "I'm about being the best... if you're gonna be playing this video game, you might as well win, right? F***, yeah."

The Guardian's writer notes that he writes very cinematically, but in saying that seems to have completely bypassed where cinema comes from- stories. And stories is what Frank moves on to from that comment: "the storytelling, that's where you can really paint pictures. You can't do it with a melody or a sound or a rhythm or a chord progression. The storytelling part of it is the most interesting and challenging part of the whole process for me." He admits that lyric writing and stories it the best part of the process for him, "it's the more interesting part about making music for me," He says, "So much so that I might not make another album. I might just write a novel next."

Is Frank Ocean Retiring From Music To Write A Book?

Frank Ocean

Nice one, The Guardian. You make Frank Ocean’s Channel Orangeyour album of the year, ask him to talk about it, only to make him turn around and say that it might be his last album ever. And what’s he going to do instead? Write a book!

Ok, so to be fair to the British paper they just wanted to praise theirs – and many others – favourite artist of 2012, and his apparent retirement from music came all from Ocean's own lips, the Odd Future man already considering a future away from the music industry. ''I focus on both sonics and story, but music sometimes, just music itself, can turn into more of a maths problem,'' he said of his music, twisting off to add "Storytelling is the more interesting part about making music for me, or making albums and songs and stuff. So much so that I might not make another album. I must write a novel instead. I don't know!"

Ruminating further, Ocean said more to frighten fans of his music, commenting “I'm beginning to question the importance of art in this world these days. Like, I have this little theory that a lot of today's geniuses don't even go into the field of art any more. I did write a song recently, and the first line of the song was, "First off, f*ck art." That was the first line … it would be f*cking legendary if I just made Channel Orange last year, then put out a best-selling novel next year, then, you know, designed an arena in Stockholm in 2014!”

Frank Ocean Makes Waves On Saturday Night Live

Frank Ocean Seth Macfarlane John Mayer Odd Future Joseph Gordon-Levitt Muse Mumford And Sons Daniel Craig

Frank Ocean’s appearance on Saturday Night Live and the release of his new video for Pyramids made for a busy weekend, reports MTV News.

The critically acclaimed singer songwriter took the stage on Saturday Night Live for the premiere of its 38th season. Introduced by Family Guy creator, Seth McFarlane, the Odd Future member trilled out his high-pitch hit ‘Thinkin Bout You’ under a lone spotlight on a retro stage, with vintage arcade machines scattered in the background. The lights shifted to reveal co-star on the show, John Mayer on guitar, who managed to get a solo performance in when Ocean returned to the stage to perform his song Pyramids. It was a bite size version of the track, as the album version runs for nearly 10 minutes, but it was still an impressive performance. The background arcade machines were utilised when Frank left to twiddle his thumbs on the joysticks, whilst Mayer did some of his own thumb twiddling on the guitar. A video for Pyramids was also in the offing for Ocean’s busy weekend, and MTV described it as a “dark, druggy thing that doesn't provide any answers; instead, it only poses more questions about the mercurial star.”

Overall it was a successful return for SNL, which will welcome Joseph Gordon-Levitt to present the next episode on September 22nd, with Mumford And Sons, Daniel Craig and Muse next in line on October 6th.
