On Instagram the 24-year-old posted an emotional handwritten note which read: “Today would have been your 50th birthday, you are loved and you are missed, thank you for giving me the GIFT of life, forever your daughter Francis Bean Cobain.”

Frances now works as a visual artist and recently starred in the Marc Jacobs campaign for his Spring 2017 collection. In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, she opened up for the first time about her father’s death.

"Kurt got to the point where he eventually had to sacrifice every bit of who he was to his art, because the world demanded it of him," Frances said.

"I think that was one of the main triggers as to why he felt he didn't want to be here and everyone would be happier without him.”

Reflecting on how her life could have been, Frances added: “in reality, if he had lived, I would have had a dad. And that would have been an incredible experience."
