Award-winning Northern Irish musician Foy Vance returns with heart-warming EP 'Feel For me', released under Glassnote Records. Comprising of four tracks, this latest offering is named for the third single to be taken from his critically acclaimed 2013 album 'Joy of Nothing'.
The title track proves powerful, reflective bedroom listening that combines mournful strings and lazy guitar licks to great emotional effect. Vance's rich vocals dominate a sparse texture that builds impressively into a radio friendly chorus that elevates the song to new heights with a welcome troupe of soulful backing singers that make the repeated refrain 'feel for me babe' seem that bit more poignant. Delicate piano passages interweave effortlessly on 'Guiding Light' whilst mellow, more up-beat folk track 'Dark Horse' adds some nice variation to the overall mood. 'Joy of Nothing' is the stand-out here, however, the simple backdrop of softly strummed guitar allowing Vance to showcase an impressive vocal range that is both husky and warm.
With BBC radio play and a well-received supporting slot for firm friend Ed Sheeran at the recent iTunes Festival, Foy Vance is certainly one to watch. Yes, the ballad of a pained man in emotional turmoil is nothing new to the discerning listener, but this EP is elegantly composed, and done with conviction.
