Hugh Grant was left disillusioned about the music industry after portraying a fallen 1980s pop icon in new movie MUSIC + LYRICS because it made him realise how easy it is to make a terrible singer sound great.
Grant admits he isn't the greatest singer in the world and was terrified when he realised he'd have to hit the high notes in the film.
So he was relieved, at first, when he realised how technology could help him sound like a pop professional. But he left the film set feeling jaded and cheated by his favourite stars.
Grant explains, "They've got this process now, with the computer, where they could make anyone sound good.
"I got more and more confident and in the end I sang much better because you know they can fix you if you don't. By the end of the film I came to quite love the sound of my own voice.
"But I now realise that the whole of the music business is a gigantic fraud. These record producers would be the first to admit that that's actually true.
"The only ones I have respect for are the ones who come in and say, 'We're not doing any of that Pro Tools (computer programme) nonsense' and don't mind if they hit a wrong note."
Grant's co-star Drew Barrymore was also amazed with what technology could do with her voice: "ADAM SCHLESINGER from Fountains Of Wayne was the one conducting our singing sessions and he made me feel at ease. I knew that I was having crows and vomit spewing out of my mouth and he was like, 'It's OK.'"
Rod Stewart's ex-wife Rachel Hunter has dismissed her 'yummy mummy' label, insisting she's horrified to think her son's friends might lust after her.
The 37-year-old model and mother of two recently starred as a pole dancer in a music video for rock band Fountains Of Wayne.
But despite the sexy role, Hunter admits she's uncomfortable being a pin-up for her children's pals.
She says, "As a mother, you don't think of your kids' friends fancying you. But it's completely that MRS ROBINSON thing. I think older women look a lot younger now."
Hunter has two children with Stewart, RENEE and LIAM.
ABC frontman MARTIN FRY has become Hugh Grant's unlikely voice coach as the movie star attempts to hit the high notes in a new movie.
The POISON ARROW singer, famed for the gold lame suits he wore as a popular 1980s star, was hired to help Four Weddings And A Funeral star Grant play an authentic pop singer in new Drew Barrymore movie MUSIC + LYRICS BY.
Fry tells Billboard.com, "I was like his stunt double, vocally. Warner Brothers (studio executives) figured, 'If Hugh Grant was a pop star, who would he sound like?' And I guess my name came up.
"Hugh listened to what I'd done, and then used that as a sort of springboard."
Fry admits he was impressed with Grant's efforts: "I think his voice sort of sounds like (Velvet Underground star) John Cale."
The BE NEAR ME hitmaker also recorded vocals for new songs, written by Fountains Of Wayne star ADAM SCHLESINGER, which will appear on the soundtrack album.
In the film, Grant plays a forgotten pop star attempting a songwriting comeback. Barrymore plays his florist muse.
Fry is staging his own comeback with ABC and plans to tour Britain with fellow 80s acts HOWARD JONES and TOYAH later this year (06).
Socialite Paris Hilton has been given a boost as she embarks on a much-anticipated pop career - she has snagged top director CHRIS APPLEBAUM to take charge of her first video. Applebaum, the man behind hit videos like Rihanna's SOS and STACY'S MOM by Fountains Of Wayne, became Hilton's favourite promo director when he shot her controversial TV ad for fast food chain Carl's Jr, in which a scantily-clad Paris lathered up while washing a car and eating a burger at the same time. And the odd couple aren't wasting any time - Hilton started shooting the video for STARS ARE BLIND on the beach in California earlier this week (24MAY06). The single will be released internationally next month (JUN06), while Hilton's debut album will be released this autumn (06).

Rockers Fountains Of Wayne have threatened to drop Germany from their European tour - because German fans don't like their music.
The STACY'S MOM hitmakers enjoy touring the globe, but the audience turn-outs at past German concerts are so poor they have refused to return.
Singer ADAM SCHLESINGER says, "We generally like it everywhere except Germany. We've been going there for years and we can't seem to get any fans.

The New Zealand stunner, who is estranged from ex-husband Rod Stewart, played the object of a young boy's lust in the promo - but had no idea the video would change her life.
She says, "I was in Australia doing a film and 10-year-olds were all coming up going, 'Oh, you're Stacy's Mom.'
