Foster The People (Formed 2009)
Foster The People is an American Indie Pop band from LA.
The members are Mark Foster (vocals, keyboards, piano, synthesizers, guitar, programming, percussion), Jacob "Cubbie" Fink (bass and backing vocals), and Mark Pontius (drums, percussion).
They are best known for their single "Pumped Up Kicks".
Formation: Foster moved in with his uncle in Sylmar, LA, to pursue a career in music.
He struggled with a drug addiction when first moving to LA.
Pontius left his previous band, Malbec, in 2009 to join Foster.
Later, Foster's long time friend Fink joined the band.
Music Career: Foster wrote the song "Pumped Up Kicks" which was ultimately the bands breakthrough.
It was available for download on the bands website in early 2010.
They performed at the South by Southwest festival in March 2010.
In May 2010, the band signed to the Columbia Imprint Startime International in a mutli-album deal.
To publish songs outside of North America, they are also signed with Sony/ ATV Music Publishing.
The band was booked to perform at Aprils Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, in 2011.
They issued their first commercial non-single release in January 2011. It was a self-titled EP including the songs "Pumped Up Kicks", "Houdini", and "Helena Beat".
"Pumped Up Kicks" received great success, peaking at number 1 on the Alternative Songs Chart in June.
At the end of 2011, they received two Grammy Award nominations for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" for "Pumped Up Kicks", and "Best Alternative Music Album" for "Torches".
They performed at the 'Firefly Music Festival' in June 2013.
Their second studio album was meant to be released in November 2013, but was instead released in January 2014.

Sweetlife 2014 lives up to its name with amazing sets from Fitz & the Tantrums and Foster The People.
Sweetlife festival proved its worth with a fantastic day of quality music and incredible food at the weekend, with Foster The People and Fitz & The Tantrums among the clear highlights of the Maryland event.
We're tempted to jump on the pun bandwagon and talk about how 'sweet' Sweetlife festival was last weekend - but we'll try and avoid it. Though speaking of such, the food was an important feature of the whole day (May 10th 2014) with one memorable fact being Astro Doughnuts' batch of 2,000 of their famous sugary treat. Obviously, there were plenty of happy faces before the music even began.
With great food, a healthy atmosphere and a short but 'sweet' line-up, Sweetlife 2014 is not worth missing.
Billed as 'a music and food festival', Sweetlife 2014 is set to offer the best of both with their single day event this weekend (May 10th 2014) at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
With the grand setting of masses of surrounding forestland, Sweetlife has developed into a much-loved annual party since its inception in 2010 when it was simply a small event held outside the Sweetgreen food destination in Dupont, Washington DC. And yet, it has maintained its solid ethics of green living and healthy eating, enforcing this with offers of local produce and green set-ups such as solar powered stages, composting waste disposal and recycling units. To make it even better, all proceeds from the event go to a very worthy charitable cause!

It looks like it's going to be an epic weekend with Big Guava 2014's quality line-up.
Arguably what could be Florida's most fun-packed 3-day event of the year, Big Guava Music Festival makes its debut today (May 2nd 2014) with an impressive line-up headlined by Outkast, Vampire Weekend and Foster The People.
There's a lot of things we like about Florida, and we reckon Big Guava's inaugural event will definitely be one of them. Set against the glorious city backdrop of Tampa, this festival is bound to be the highlight of your year as it arrives at the Florida State Fairgrounds and Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre. As well as 40 awesome bands on 4 different stages, you got your craft beers, your diverse food trucks and your epic fairground rides (which are free, by the way) that will keep you busy in between performances from a line-up that prides itself on its quality over quantity. Having said that, we still think you're going to be spoilt for choice with this lot.
They may have struggled to connect with their Coachella crowd, but Outkast certainly impressed at CounterPoint.
Outkast returned home to Georgia for their stint at CounterPoint Festival 2014 - and fans were a lot more pleased this time round than they were at their comeback gig at Coachella.
Nothing was going to spoil the mood at this year's CounterPoint Festival. With a line-up headlined by one of the world's favourite veteran hip hop duos and also featuring Pretty Lights, Foster The People and STS9, not even the ferocious storm that swept the venue over the weekend engulfing festival goers in streams of mud was going to ruin the experience for anyone.
Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Arcade Fire bring life to New Orleans Jazz Festival 2014.
It's that time of year again where New Orleans go all out to prove they are one of the most culturally rich cities in North America with their annual two-weekend event, the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
The Jazz Festival has expanded to two long weekends since its inaugural year in 1970, meaning that more people than ever can get the chance to enjoy the fine music culture of Louisiana. The Queen of Gospel Mahalia Jackson appeared at the first event alongside renowned orchestral composer Duke Ellington, and from then on the festival has gone from strength to strength and has never once lost the spirit that has made it so loved.
'Supermodel' is the second full-length release for the indie pop
When Foster The People made their name with ‘Pumped up Kicks’, many thought they might be a flash in the pan; a one hit wonder with little more to offer than the undeniably toe-tapping summer anthem of 2011. But one listen to ‘Torches’, the band’s debut album, was enough to convince us they had something more, while dividing the critics at the same time.
Foster The People have achieved a similar feat to that of their debut album: mediocrity
If universal acclaim is the goal, then Foster The People certainly failed with ‘Torches’, but the potential was there, making the hype surrounding their new album ‘Supermodels’ almost palpable. Unfortunately, the same story befalls; hints of indie-pop nous but a polarizing effect on the press.
