One Isle of Wight Festival fan’s desperate attempt to get one of his favourite bands to one of his favourite gigs has backfired after the head of the IoW Fest revealed the Foo Fighters had turned down his request for them to headline. The Seaclose Park event, which first ran for three years from 1968 and was subsequently revived in 2002, will sadly not play host to Dave Grohl and his pals.

Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters have broken one fan's heart by declining to headline the Isle of Wight Festival next year

Festival organiser, John Giddings, broke the news to Keris Abbott on Twitter after the super fan had written: "You have to get Foo Fighters to headline next year!! Especially after their amazing new song and with an album out soon!!"

While Mr Giddings may have agreed in principal, the Fighters had other ideas and apparently said no, although Mr Giddings replied that he had "tried".

This is not the only act that the IoW Festival 2015 will be missing after it was revealed that Giddings had recently referred to Ed Sheeran as "boring".

He said: "We’re not building headliners any more. Nobody can invest in building a band over five albums. And if boring acts like Ed Sheeran are the future then we’re all screwed!"

Of course Ed, with his multi-million albums sold and his stock loads of money is likely to be less "screwed" than Mr Giddings may be without one of the most popular singers of the moment on his side.

Ed replied to the insult by tweeting that he had been "asked to do the festival next year a few weeks ago, funnily enough I couldn’t do it due to another gig."

This year’s Isle of Wight was headlined by the stellar cast of Biffy Clyro, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Kings of Leon.

Foo Fighters headlined Leeds and Reading Festival in 2012 and have announced their first album release since 2011.

The as-yet-unnamed musical production is out in November.
