A series of New York concerts due to feature rockers the Flaming Lips and Interpol has been cancelled in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.
The gigs, also including sets by rap icon Q-Tip and dance star Girl Talk, were set to take place in Long Beach from 4 to 15 September (11) as part of the Quicksilver Pro New York event.
However, the area set to play host to the shows was left badly damaged over the weekend (27-28Aug11) after the hurricane swept through the Big Apple, knocking down trees and causing serious flooding in some parts of the city - including a local hotel the artists were due to stay at.
As a result, the live music portion of the Quicksilver Pro New York series has been scrapped, although a surfing event featuring sporting star Kelly Slater and other skating and Bmx biking demonstrations will go ahead as planned.
