Theeb (whose name means 'wolf' in Arabic) is a young boy with a lot to learn about the Bedouin lifestyle in which he's growing up. His father has just passed away, leaving only his older brother Hussein to take care of him in the isolated Ottoman Empire province of Hejaz. It's 1916 and the midst of World War I, but Theeb is blissfully unaware of the troubles and at odds with his brother's attempts to teach him discipline and morality. He is forced to confront the things he is being taught, however, with the arrival of two British Army soldiers en route to a water-well. As is their custom, Theeb's Bedouin tribe offers them hospitality and guidance to their destination. But Theeb doesn't want Hussein disappearing into the desert with strangers, and so follows him - not knowing of the dangers he will face in an area full of murderous Ottoman mercenaries.
'Theeb' is a deep World War I drama directed by Naji Abu Nowar who wrote the screenplay with his frequent collaborator Bassel Ghandour. The movie won awards at a number of film festivals such as Abu Dhabi, Cairo International, Miami and Venice, and it is scheduled to be released on August 14th 2015.
