Neil McCormick always had a dream of becoming a rock n' roll star. Having auditioned to join a band at school, Neil found himself losing out and his best friend Paul being picked as the lead singer of the hottest band in Dublin The Hype. Feeling he would've been the better person for the job, Neil sets up the band 'Shook Up' with his brother Ivan - their most important aim: to be more successful than The Hype.
Over time, both bands make a name for themselves on the local music scene, but for each of Shook Up's successes The Hype always seem to have the upper hand, as their popularity begins to gain momentum, The Hype change their name to U2 and Paul becomes Bono. Now, Neil's only aim: become bigger than U2.
Moving to London, the two brothers and their band find themselves the centre of a little attention in a very unkind business, but as their own success rises Ivan finds out the truth behind his brothers rivalry with U2. Each time U2 strike is lucky, it seems the McCormick receive a blow.
Increasingly Neil feels he's the yin to Bono's yang and doomed to a life living in the shadow of his old school friend. Perhaps the answer to his problems lies in killing Bono.
