In spite of all the medical advancements in this day and age, people of the western world are still at risk of dying young as health issues surrounding obesity, such as heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and cancer, become more and more of a problem both physically and financially as our already struggling economy is forced to fork out billions of dollars every year to treat them. When researchers found that those living in the Philippines, Korea, Japan and China had remarkably low risks of developing certain types of cancers, heart disease and arthritis among many other things due to their plant based diets and reduced levels of animals products in their food intake, scientists decided it was time to test this simple form of medicine on a group of willing, particularly unhealthy volunteers. As a result, many of them managed to easily control and in some cases cure their diseases. It is an idea that has struck scientists as remarkably simple but yet is in many ways controversial in that it threatens the status quo of western consumerism.
