The President's Analyst Review

It's hard to envision a comedy that reeks more of the '60s than The President's Analyst, with James Coburn enlisted as the head shrink to the U.S. president, with ridiculously disastrous results.

Coburn takes the job, only to realize that it comes with as much pressure as the president himself is under. Not only is he on call 24/7, he is faced with the proposition of being the sole recipient of the secrets of the world, which obviously he can't share with anyone.

Meanwhile, he finds himself targeted by various governments, all looking to pry the secrets out of the good doctor, while the feds have second thoughts about a loose cannon being out in the field. This culminates in an ending of such utter absurdity that you wouldn't believe it if I spoiled it all right here. It's at once classic and incredibly stupid.

Coburn is fun in one of the more lighthearted roles of his career, but Analyst plays like a frivolous waste of time when it should have taken a more satirical tack. When Coburn ends up on a drug bender with hippies, we feel like we've landed in another movie altogether. Alas, it isn't a better one.

Dig the nails.
