The Janitor

"Weak"

The Janitor Review

In case the title hasn't tipped you off, The Janitor is a comedy. It's also a slasher flick, with our title hero carving up the ingrates at the office where he works.

The low-budget brainchild of directors TJ Nordaker and Andy Signore (Signore plays the janitor), the film gives us Kevin Smith-lookalike Signore as Lionel, a custodian who lives in the janitorial closet with his cohort, senior custodian Mr. Growbo (Bruce Cronander). When Lionel is crossed, Lionel gets angry, and when Lionel gets angry, there's a body count.

That's the basic story here, though the third act throws us a twist when Growbo steals Lionel's cush new job -- cleaning up at a sorority. The body count gets even higher, and there's a little gratuitous T&A action for those of you interested in such things.

As a comedy, The Janitor's brazen willingness to break every social convention makes it quite funny, though you won't be allowed to laugh out loud in the presence of your girlfriend. Headless/necrophiliac blow jobs, a man beaten to death with his own hand... this is comedy you don't even get on South Park. As a horror flick, The Janitor's low-budget roots shine through a little too clearly. It's shot on video, the acting is sub-par, and the special effects are nothing special. It's goofy bloodletting, and nothing more.

On DVD, the film offers what sounds like a commentary track, though everyone involved is nearly completely drunk. Other copious extras abound.
