"Weak"

Models Review

Models: Self-absorded, drug-addicted, shallow, and generally hateful people? Ya don't say.

Austrian director Ulrich Seidl takes what I assume are real Teutonic models and puts them into a fictional script that probably isn't too far from their real lives.

The DVD cover explains that the film is 58 minutes long and about a trio of girls, each with wildly different personalities. In actuality, it's two hours long and follows four women that are wholly interchangable: All blond stick figures, the girls are, to a point, slutty and drug addicted, obsessed with their careers, and devoid of personality.

That doesn't mean that Models is without some merit: Its insights into the universe of Eurotrash models are curious but, in today's world, already well known. Still, you don't often get the opportunity to see them in action that often -- begging for a photographer to shoot them, and offering their bodies in exchange for the privilege -- and its wild earnestness can be sobering. If you've ever wanted to see what goes on behind the tabloids, here's your chance.
