Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary Review

Gosh, nurses can be so cruel! The opening scene of Bloody Mary has a gaggle of 'em sending one of their own (who's violated some sacrosanct rule among the group) down into the basements of the creepy asylum where they work. Naked. Naturally, she's never seen again... is it Bloody Mary who absconded with her body?

Over the next 93 minutes the body count will explode as the naked nurse's sister (a best-selling author!) searches for her in vain, while at least one conspiracy is revealed among the nurses. Oh, and Bloody Mary, unlike in the otherwise nearly identical Urban Legend series, is real, and she'll happily leap out of a mirror if you speak her name a few times.

Aside from copies amounts of gore and a surprising degree of gratuitous nudity, there's not much memorable about Bloody Mary. I watched it less than a week ago and already I'm having trouble keeping the plot straight. Character names? Forget about it. These are characters best distinguished by gender and hair color. Otherwise they're all developed to the same, nonexistent degree.

There are nuggets of what might be something worth watching in all of this, but they come through only faintly and in short bursts. The splatter effects are actually not bad, but the story is so overdone and silly that the film suffers to the point where it can't really be salvaged.

Bloody Mary? Again? Really? They might as well have made another Candyman...
