Fergie and Josh Duhamel believe communication is important to make their marriage work and never go longer than two weeks without seeing each other.
The Black Eyed Peas star admits her and the actor's work schedules can make it difficult to spend time together, but they know how important it is to stay in constant contact.
She said: "We make sure we don't go for longer than two weeks without seeing each other.
"Communication is such a big thing. I think any therapist would tell you that.
"It's the key to a lot of people's problems. They just don't hear what the other person is saying.
"It's all about listening, and then picking your Battles."
The pair embrace technology to stay in touch, such as video calling programmes Skype or iChat, but are equally happy to just talk of the phone.
She added to Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine: "We use whatever works in the hotel room! Skype, iChat - whichever one we can get going.
"Sometimes it takes a little while, 'Are you hearing m? Can you see me now? I can hear you but I can't see you?' And once in a while, we're like 'Forget it, let's just talk on the phone the Old School way."
