Albarn Calls For Revolution


Gorillaz Damon Albarn Feel Good Inc

Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn has called for a popular revolution to overthrow fundamentalist leaders in a bid to avoid World War Three.
The Feel Good Inc hitmaker, who is an outspoken global campaigner against poverty and environmental issues, is convinced the West's war on terror is doomed, and must be stopped before it ends in catastrophe.
He says, "This war cannot be won. It is allowing extremists on both sides to take charge of our future.
"I hate the images I see on TV. It is time for revolution."

Wallace And Gromit Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit Gorillaz Feel Good Inc

TIM BURTON'S CORPSE BRIDE triumphed at the British Animation Awards on Thursday (09MAR06), after beating Oscar-winning Wallace And Gromit: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT to the Best Feature accolade. The quirky film-maker picked up the gong at a glamourous ceremony in London's Shaw Theatre, where eight-minute film RABBIT took two trophies, including Best Short Film and Most Cutting Edge Film. Animated pop group Gorillaz garnered the Favourite Music Video accolade for their number one hit Feel Good Inc.

Blur Gorillaz Damon Albarn Feel Good Inc The Clash

Blur frontman and Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn is developing a play for London's prestigious National Theatre.

The Feel Good Inc hitmaker, 37, will focus on the diverse musical cultures that have emerged from the Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill areas of the British capital, such as The Notting Hill Carnival and punk rock group The Clash.

National Theatre artistic director NICHOLAS HYTNER says, "It will allow Damon to develop his passionate interest in musical styles.

Gorillaz made Grammy Awards history at Los Angeles' Staples Center last night (08FEB06) when they became the first animated group to open the prize giving.

The quirky group, founded by Blur's Damon Albarn and animator Jamie Howlett kicked off music's big night with their hit Feel Good Inc, and as the cartoon band performed on a huge black screen, Madonna joined them to perform her smash-hit HUNG UP.

Wearing a shimmering lilac leotard and matching corset, the MATERIAL GIRL wowed the Grammy audience and viewers by performing with the Gorillaz as her backing band.

Irish rockers U2 stunned the music world last night (08FEB06) when they picked up five Grammy Awards in Los Angeles to lead their peers at the 48th annual music honours.

A visibly moved BONO stated, "This is really a big, big night for our band," as he accepted the group's fifth award for Album of The Year (HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB).

The group also picked up honours for Song of The Year, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album.

Kanye West has been given a belated Christmas gift by the editors of American newspaper USA Today - his latest album Late Registration has been named the best of 2005.

The rapper's release beat out PAPER TIGERS' CAESARS and GET LIFTED by John Legend to land the top spot in the publication's end-of-year list.

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey was named the paper's Commercial Comeback of the year and Brit Kate Bush claimed the Comeback Anytime honour.

Kanye West is off to a running start in the race for the Best Album Grammy next year (06), after landing top spot in US magazines Spin and Rolling Stone's end-of-year polls.

The rapper's Late Registration beat ARULAR by Mia and Franz Ferdinand's YOU COULD HAVE IT SO MUCH BETTER to take number one in the Spin annual Top 40, and topped THE ROLLING STONES' BIGGER BANG on the Rolling Stone Top 50 Records list.

Meanwhile, Spin crowned Feel Good Inc by animated group Gorillaz as the Single Of The Year, ahead of Fall Out Boy's SUGAR, WE'RE GOIN' DOWN and R+B sensation Amerie's 1 THING.

Coldplay, Gorillaz, Green Day and Gwen Stefani are leading the nominations at this year's (05) MTV Europe Music Awards.

The YELLOW hitmakers, fronted by Chris Martin, are up for five gongs, including Best Group, Best Song for SPEED OF SOUND, Best Album for X+Y, Best Rock and Best UK And Ireland Act, at the 3 November (05) bash in Lisbon, Portugal.

Damon Albarn's cartoon group are fighting for Best Song and Best Video for Feel Good Inc, Best Group and Best UK And Ireland Act, while punk trio Green Day have received nods in four categories, including Best Album for AMERICAN IDIOT, Best Group, Best Pop and Best Rock.

British rockers Oasis will lead the race at next month's (OCT05) Q Awards in London after landing five nominations.

Following the release of their sixth studio album, DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH, earlier this year (05), the band have been given nods in the Best Live Act, Best Album, Best Video and Best Act In The World Today categories - as well as Best Track for single THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE.

Other bands competing for top prizes at the British magazine's awards ceremony include Coldplay - with four nominations - U2, Kaiser Chiefs, THE White Stripes, Green Day and Gwen Stefani.
