A Week In Movies featuring: Frankenweenie, Anna Karenina, Magic Mike, Dead Man Down, Joyful Noise & much more

With Wimbledon and Euro2012 still holding everyone's attention, UK film distributors are avoiding releasing big movies. But this week's selection is a pretty good bunch of non-blockbusters, including the Bridesmaids reunion movie Friends With Kids, Matthew McConaughey in the outrageously nasty hitman comedy-thriller Killer Joe, and Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah as duelling church choir directors in the silly

musical Joyful Noise.

The most notable new trailer this week is for Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, a stop-motion comedy-thriller about a boy who brings his beloved pet dog back to life. Shot in black and white like a monster movie, it's expanded from Burton's 1984 30-minute short.

We also got our first look at Joe Wright's ambitious new film of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel Anna Karenina, starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Johnson. The trailer is so lavish that the film looks like a shoo-in for Oscar attention, and the approach looks intriguingly unusual - setting all of the action surreally in a theatre.

In sequel news this week, it turns out that James Cameron is planning not two but three more Avatar films, and plans to shoot them back-to-back with the original cast members. Sigourney Weaver let this slip in an interview, and admitted that she hasn't a clue what the stories will be.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner has started talking about his imminent reboot/sequel The Bourne Legacy, and says that he's already talking to writer-director Tony Gilroy about a fourth film in the series. And the real news is that he may team up with Matt Damon for the next adventure.

In New York, Channing Tatum arrived at the David Letterman Show to promote his new film Magic Mike, which is based on his own life experiences working as a stripper before his first acting job. The film costars Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer.

And also in New York, Colin Farrell was filmed on the set of his hit man crime-thriller Dead Man Down, which costars Dominic Cooper and Terrence Howard. The film also reunites Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) with Swedish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev, who directed her in the original film of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
