Meanwhile in America, the stars turned out for the premiere of Oliver Stone's new film, a return to Natural Born Killers crime-action mode with the drugsCostar Blake Lively looked gorgeous on the red carpet in a bright yellow gown, while John Travolta ignored those nasty gossip stories and smiled for the paparazzi.
Another star caught up in the gossip columns at the moment is Tom Cruise, whose upcoming action movie Jack Reacher launched its first trailer this week. It isn't much more than a teaser for what seems to be a vigilante-style Mission Impossible action romp, but it looks strikingly well made, playing to Cruise's strength at playing conflicted characters. The film opens in December.
Savages costar Salma Hayek also appears in Here Comes the Boom, a comedy starring Kevin James as a high school teacher trying to keep his school going amid drastic budget cuts. So he decides to train as a mixed-martial arts warrior. With Henry Winkler as his coach. The film hits cinemas this autumn.
But the biggest news this week was that shooting has wrapped on the set of The Hobbit in New Zealand after over a year on the set. Filmmaker Peter Jackson still has a lot of effects work to do on the two-part saga, and there will probably some re-shoots with the cast next year, but The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is due in cinemas this Christmas, while The Hobbit: There and Back Again arrives in December 2013.
