The artist formerly known as CAT STEVENS credits his son with reviving his musical career when he left a guitar lying around the family home.
Muslim convert Yusuf Islam retired from music in 1978 to devote his life to religion, but he released his first album in 28 years last month (NOV06) after writing new songs on his son's guitar.
Shortly after his conversion, Islam got rid of all of his musical instruments because he was instructed music contravened his faith.
He recalls, "There's a nice irony because I wrote a song called Father and Son about the son running off to do his own thing. Now the story is about my son coming back and bringing a guitar into the house.
"A couple of years ago, one morning after prayers, his guitar was lying around. I picked it up and my fingers knew exactly where to go. I'd written some words and when I put them to music, it moved me and I realised I could have another job to do. Things just grew from there."
The artist formerly known as CAT STEVENS is so wary of the press he records every interview he conducts for fear of being misquoted.
Muslim convert Yusuf Islam, who devoted his life to the religion in 1978, successfully sued British newspapers The Sun and The Sunday Times for libel in October 2004, after he was named on a 'no-fly' list and denied entry into the US in September (04).
Islam also caused controversy in the late 1980s when he was misinterpreted by journalists who reported he favoured a call for the death of THE SATANIC VERSES author Salman Rushdie.
The Father and Son star says, "I had a few occasions when I had a brush with the press and it was very harsh, very hostile to my conversion.
"I can't help but think that somewhere along the line there's somebody who has a position, and perhaps something to guard and protect, that stops people from knowing about Islam."
Muslim convert Islam - formerly CAT STEVENS - teamed up with Keating to cover his 1970 track last year (04) and has since formed a strong friendship with the ex-Boyzone hunk.
Having experienced fame once again after years out of the limelight, Islam is now eagerly working on a big screen musical of his life story - and he wants Keating to play him.
