Redmond O'Neal has been undergoing court-ordered inpatient treatment in a Pasadena, California facility since last year (11), when he pleaded no contest to a drug and weapons charge. He subsequently admitted to violating his probation by using drugs at the medical centre.
He was facing up to three years and eight months behind bars but on Tuesday (09Oct12) a judge suspended his sentence at his final progress report hearing in court.
O'Neal's attorney Richard Pintal tells E! News, "Redmond is now a free man. He was released today. A year ago we stipulated that if Redmond completed his one year inpatient (treatment), they would suspend the sentence."
O'Neal will continue with outpatient treatment and must live with a sober companion for 30 days.
Pintal adds that his client "has a number of opportunities and he is going to take his time to figure out what he wants to do next".
