Actress Evan Rachel Wood credits her casting in the movie THIRTEEN with saving her from her own teen agony.
The Golden Globe nominee, now 19, went through a painful growing up process, suffering with depression and being picked on at school, similar to her character in the film.
She says, "During the year between 13 and 14 I was really alone and angry all the time. I was never into drugs, but I had a lot of self-loathing and self-destructiveness.
"I knew it was wrong but I thought it was what I had to do.
"I didn't fit in at school and then a girl spread a bunch of rumours about me. My friends stopped talking to me and I became obsessed with Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.
"Thirteen was very close to home. I had a lot of stuff from my own life to draw on."
