Ailing R&B legend Etta James has been taken off a respirator after finding strength to breathe on her own again.
The terminally ill star was hospitalised in Riverside, California just before Christmas (Dec11) after suffering breathing problems and she remained under doctors' care over the festive holiday.
But the At Last singer, 73, is making slight progress as she continues to battle leukaemia - her longtime manager, Lupe De Leon, revealed on Friday (30Dec11) that she is no longer relying on the machine for oxygen.
James, who has suffered from ill health and dementia for the past few years, is under 24-hour care and is expected to remain in hospital into the New Year (12).
