Ailing singer Etta James has been hospitalised as she battles incurable leukaemia, according to a U.S. report.
The At Last hitmaker has been struggling with a number of illnesses, including dementia and kidney failure, and her health has been in decline in recent months.
James' caretaker, Dr. Elaine James, recently revealed the 73 year old had been placed under 24-hour medical care after her chronic leukaemia was declared incurable.
Reports have now emerged suggesting the star's condition has taken a turn for the worse and she has been admitted to a hospital in California, where her relatives have flocked to be by her side.
A post on U.S. network CNN's showbiz Twitter page on Wednesday (21Dec11) reads, "An update on Etta James: Her manager tells Cnn that she's been taken to the hospital - her husband and sons are with her."
Replying to the tweet, Jackie Jackson writes, "Sending love & prayers."
