Irrational Man Trailer

In a small town at the college campus, a normal man is having a terrible time. Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix) is the philosophy professor, but he's having a full existential crisis. To Abe, nothing is meaningful and he fails to perform in every aspect of his life, and is steadily falling into the bottle. But when a young woman (Emma Stone) forces him to reassess his life, he finds happiness - seemingly out of nowhere. While the rest of the faculty benefit from his new lease on life, the woman can't quite figure out why the whole situation makes her so uncomfortable.

Inside Llewyn Davis Trailer

Llewyn Davis is a struggling folk musician attempting to find his place in the world by scouring New York's Greenwich Village at the height of folk in 1961. Along the way he meets old friends who are not particularly happy to see him because of his own unresolved mistakes in the past, and while he strives to find a venue to do what he loves doing, hitchhiking across roads in the freezing winter with a beat-up guitar and a homeless cat, he is forced to question not only himself as a person, but also where and what he really wants his future to be.

'Inside Llewyn Davis' is an emotional musical drama written and directed by Oscar winners Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, aka The Coen Brothers ('No Country for Old Men', 'True Grit', 'Fargo'). It has been very loosely based on the posthumous 2005 memoirs 'The Mayor of MacDougal Street' by the late New York folk artist Dave Van Ronk, and has been nominated to compete for the sought after Palme d'Or prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. This passionate story about love, music, finding oneself and learning from one's mistakes will hit screens in the UK on January 24th 2014.

The Babysitters Review

Terrible
In a particularly uncomfortable scene is an otherwise forgettable Christmas holiday comedy, Deck the Halls, two middle-aged neighbors and rivals, Danny De Vito and Matthew Broderick, whoop it up like horn-dogs when, during a holiday pageant, a group of scantily clad girls saunter out onstage and bump and grind to the music. De Vito whistles and makes leering comments to Broderick, zeroing in on one particularly fetching cavorting nymphet. Only too late does De Vito realize that the sexy teen is, in fact, his own daughter. De Vito and Broderick refuse to lock eyes and the matter is dropped. In the soon to be released War Inc., implied incest is also on display when Hilary Duff slinks over to John Cusack and throws herself on the table in front of him, awaiting ravishment. Cusack reacts by throwing up, his subconscious telling him that Duff is his long-lost daughter.

Don't get me wrong. Pedophilia can be a scintillating subject of film fun from satires (Lolita), searing Southern melodramas (take your pick from Tennessee Williams), masterpieces (M), or to the unclassifiable (Happiness). The problem comes when filmmakers light the flame and have no idea where to carry it or how to extinguish it. Such is the case with David Ross's confused The Babysitters.

The Island Review

OK
If you're going to clone someone, Scarlett Johansson is a damn good choice. But putting Scarlett in an action movie -- and dying her hair blonde? You can't be serious.

I am serious. And while The Island isn't exactly a great film, the case for Johansson as action starlet has been made, handily.

Trekkies Review

Excellent
Hilarious in the way that true stories only can be, Trekkies is a documentary that looks inside the lives of the world's most rabid fanatics: Star Trek fans. Nuttiness knows no bounds with these guys, who bid hundreds of dollars for a prosthesis used on the show, who make their own costumes, who travel across the country to go to the conventions, and who idolize the stars of Trek with a zeal otherwise unknown to man. At the same time, the amount of love these people share and the strong values the show has instilled in them make them not as pathetic as you'd think. A devilishly compelling story that makes you question when you're supposed to laugh. Not to be missed for any fan of sci-fi.
