Emma Watson has joined the cast of Sofia Coppola's hugely anticipated movie 'Bling Ring' about the notorious group of Los Angeles teenagers who caused a sensation three years ago by burgling the houses of celebrities including Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.
The Harry Potter actress has reportedly signed on to play former television star Alex Neiers, who ended up serving a 30 day jail sentence for her part in the crime, though this is yet to be confirmed. Details of the project are limited at the present time, but it is understood that Coppola will write and direct the movie, and will not stray too far from the scenes where the robberies actually took place, recently telling Variety, "I'm excited about the young cast we're assembling and I'm looking forward to shooting on location here in Los Angeles". The criminal group made headlines between 2008 and 2009 when they stole an estimated $3 million worth of jewellery and designer clothing from stars such as Hilton, Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Audrina Patridge. Neiers was eventually sentenced to 180 days in jail after being caught robbing the home of Orlanda Bloom, but served just 30.
