British actress Emma Thompson has been named a European hero for her dedicated humanitarian work.

The OSCAR-winning actress and poverty campaigner, 45, has been acknowledged in the annual TIME MAGAZINE poll for her tireless work in Africa.

The other Britons recognised were round-the-world yachtswoman ELLEN MacARTHUR, BODY SHOP campaigner ANITA RODDICK, animal conservation specialist Jane Goodall and About A Boy author Nick Hornby who funds a school for autistic children.
