OSCAR winner Emma Thompson has been called in the help adapt the script for the new film version of Pride And Prejudice.

Thompson starred and wrote the screenplay for 1995 hit SENSE AND SENSIBILITY and is an expert in JANE AUSTEN, who wrote both books - and was happy to assist producers with the new film, which stars Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen.

The screenplay was written by novelist DEBORAH MOGGACH and then re-written by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall.

Now Thompson - currently making new movie NANNY McPHEE - has been in "relaxed conversations" with producers about "tweaking" the screenplay, writes British newspaper the DAILY MAIL.

Rehearsals have just begun on the costume drama - Knightley will play ELIZABETH BENNET and MacFadyen DR DARCY, alongside a supporting cast including Brenda Blethyn and DAME Judi Dench.
