Emma Thompson is set to show off her vocal skills by making her New York stage debut in musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.

The Brit is heading to the Big Apple to tackle the role of maniacal Mrs. Lovett, the Victorian villainess who makes pies from Sweeney Todd's victims, in the latest adaptation of Hugh Wheeler's 1979 production.

However, it will be a short run - she will star in just three performances alongside the New York Philharmonic at the Avery Fisher Hall.

Welsh opera star Bryn Terfel will play Todd in the show, which will run from 5-8 March next year (14).

Angela Lansbury, Patti LuPone and Imelda Staunton have all played the role on stage, while Helena Bonham-Carter portrayed Lovett alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's 2007 big screen version.
