Emma Stone and a guest appearance by Coldplay were the star attractions on this weekend's Saturday Night Live , but their appearance didn't make America turn on, with the episode posting the lowest rating of the 37th series, scoring a 4.5 rating in metered-market households for NBC. This was down on 4.9 the weekend before which was hosted by actor Charlie Day and featured Maroon 5 as musical guests.
Not that Stone, hosting for the second time, and the English rock group didn't try their hardest to entertain. Coldplay took to a stage covered in multi-coloured pinwheels to perform two tracks from latest album 'Mylo Xyloto', the singles 'Paradise' and 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall'. Later on in the episode the band's lead singer Chris Martin appeared in the show's Weekend Update segment as a backing singer for Fred Armisen and Kristen Wiig's characters Garth and Kat, reports Stereogum.
Stone, 23, provided an amiable host. The actress made her name in comedy 'Superbad' and has gone on to appear in 'Easy A' - which saw her nominated for a glut of Mtv Movie Awards in 2010 - and this year's 'Friends With Benefits'. The Hollywood Reporter reports that next weekend the show will be presented by current star of 'The Muppets' movie Jason Segel, with Florence & The Machine providing the musical accompaniment.
