Emma Roberts has joined the cast of 'Scream 4'.

The actress will star alongside Courteney Cox-Arquette, David Arquette and Neve Campbell in the horror movie franchise although it has not been confirmed what role she will be playing.

She said: "I'm so excited to be part of this ground-breaking franchise. It's the perfect opportunity for me to do something completely different than I've ever done before."

It had been reported Ashley Greene was to take on the main role of Jill but negotiations have now fallen through and insiders expect Emma to replace her.

It has also been rumoured Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin will appear in the movie.

The film - which has been written by Kevin Williamson and will be directed by Wes Craven - will begin shooting next month in Michigan, US.

Although 'Scream 3' was supposed to be the end of the series, the fourth movie is expected to open up the possibility for a second trilogy with 'Scream 5' and 'Scream 6' being mooted.
