Last night's episode of Revenge, starring Emily Vancamp is "reaping rewards" for the ABC channel, according to Usa Today, which describes the series as a "soapy drama." Many of the shows fans are reportedly keen to follow Vancamp's character (also called Emily) as she exacts revenge on "the Hamptons elite who wronged her and her late father."
The show, which is said to have been inspired by the tale of The Count of Monte Cristo, follows Emily as she returns to the Hamptons as an adult seeking vengeance for those that conspired against her father, especially Victoria Grayson, played by Madeleine Stowe. Talking of the show, Vancamp says that "Revenge is a universal language. Everybody has thought about it at some point. I think that people are looking for good old escapism." Although Revenge's ratings aren't massive, the show still draws in around 8.5 million viewers and Vancamp's presence in the show is thought to be a big draw for advertisers.
25 year old Emily Vancamp first rose to fame playing the role of Amy Abbott in Everwood and then the role of Rebecca Harper in Abc's Brothers and Sisters. Emily's character in the show is a complex one; she is described as a "flawed figure" damaged by the death of her father and a childhood spent in juvenile detention and foster care. At this stage, Vancamp says of her character "She lost everything and really has nothing left to lose."
