The forensic procedural show was renewed for a 12th and final season by bosses at U.S. network Fox on Thursday (25Feb16), and the last installment will consist of just 12 episodes.
Fox Co-Chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman promised in a statement announcing the news that the move to renew the show promises producers can now create a "meaningful and satisfying conclusion" to give "fans the end they so richly deserve."
"This is for the fans!," Boreanaz added. "Thank you to everyone at Fox...Also to the crew and cast for their countless support along the way! And I couldn't have done it without you, Emily!"
Deschanel took to Twitter to share her gratitude for the loyalty fans have shown over the years, writing, "As sad as it is to know something you have loved doing for 11 years will be ending, I am so glad we will have the opportunity to end it well.
"Thank you for the most loyal, dedicated and kind fans in the world! We couldn't have done any of this without you! We are so lucky to have had the talented writers, producers, directors, fellow actors, crew members we have had on @BONESonFOX thank you all."
