Elvis Presley's celebrated backing vocalist SOLOMON KING has died from cancer at the age of 73.

King played in Presley's legendary band THE JORDANAIRES and shot to fame in 1967, when his solo hit SHE WEARS MY RING reached number five in the UK charts.

He was famed for becoming the first white musician to tour with blues icon Billie Holiday as well as his well-publicised marriage to Canadian journalist HENNY LOWY, which ended in 1980.

Lowy has confirmed King died yesterday (20JAN05) in Oklahoma, leaving behind four children.
