Rock superstar SIR Elton John is planning to take a musical version of movie Interview With the Vampire to the Broadway stage.

The singer, who produced current stage hits AIDA and The Lion King, wants the $15 million (GBP10 million) show to open in New York in 2005.

The story will encompass three Anne Rice novels INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, THE VAMPIRE LESTAT AND QUEEN OF THE DAMNED and will be titled THE VAMPIRE LESTAT.

Sir Elton will compose the production with songwriting partner BERNIE TAUPIN - and the pair promise the show will be entirely authentic.

He says, "I didn't see where any modern music could possibly come in without sounding ridiculous."

And Taupin adds, "It will be dark, sexy and scary, but that doesn't mean it has to be cliche."
