SIR Elton John wept at the opening night of his new musical, based on the
movie Billy Elliot.
The music legend admits he cried when he first saw the film at the 2000

dancer in a working class area of England so closely resembled his own early
He loved the film so much, he persuaded director Stephen Daldry and author
Lee Hall to turn it into a stage show, with lyrics by Hall and music by
And tears flowed again at London's Victoria Palace Theatre on Wednesday
John says, "The last three songs completely got me again. I was blubbing.
I didn't think I would be relaxed enough to give it my full emotions, but from
the word go I was away."
Sir Elton wasn't the only wet eye in the theatre - other celebrity guests
found it hard to contain their emotions. Jamie Bell, who played Elliot on the
big screen admits, "I didn't stop crying all night."
