SIR Elton John has beaten Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne to top a list naming the biggest British celebrity earner in 2004.

The 57-year-old singer knocked veteran rockers THE Rolling Stones off the top spot by making a staggering $62 million (GBP33 million) last year (04).

In second place, The Osbournes earned $38 million (GBP20 million), while third placed American Idol and The X Factor judge Simon Cowell made $34 million (GBP18 million).

The Stones fell from pole position to number 11, having made $19 million (GBP10 million) in the list drawn up by British magazine OK!.

The top ten British showbiz earners in 2004 are:
