Elton John just will not let his on-going feud with Madonna rest. The latest contribution to Elton's campaign to ruin Madge's reputation has seen him blasting the singer and declaring that her "career is over." The tirade of abuse did not end there though. "She's such a nightmare, she looks like a f***king fairground stripper" said the 'Rocket man' singer. He also disapproved of how "horrible" Madonna had been to Lady GaGa - who just so happens to be godmother to his son Zachary.
Madonna may well have been unfair to Lady Gaga, but Elton's comments are pretty off the hook. In fact, his remarks were so close to the bone that even his own PR company have been in contact with an Australian entertainment reporter, claiming that the quotes were fabricated. In actual fact, the quotes were not fabricated, Huffington Post reports; Elton uttered them on Aussie television's Channel 7, in a conversation with Molly Meldrum. The PR co. then took another tack, claiming that the comments had been made 'off the record' and were not intended for broadcast. Surely Elton has enough experience of the media to know when he shouldn't and shouldn't accuse people of looking like a "f***king fairground stripper" if he doesn't want it broadcast, though?
Elton did take a moment, though to offer Madonna an insightful critique of her career, adding "If Madonna had any common sense, she would have made a record like Ray of Light, stayed away from the dance stuff, and just been a great pop singer and made great pop records, which she does brilliantly. But no, she had to prove that she was like." He trailed off at that point, so perhaps that critique wasn't as insightful as it could have been.
