Sir Elton John put his recent health scare firmly behind him to perform his first British festival set in years on the closing night of Bestival.

The singer axed his headline slot at the Barclaycard presents British Summer Time event in London's Hyde Park in July (13) after doctors diagnosed him with appendicitis, but he returned to the festival scene on Sunday (08Sep13) for a triumphant performance at Bestival on the Isle of Wight.

The Rocket Man star opened the show by singing The B**ch is Back, before thrilling the crowd with hits including Tiny Dancer, I'm Still Standing and Candle in the Wind.

He also thanked organiser Rob Da Bank for inviting him to play during the 10th anniversary event, telling the crowd, "I haven't done a festival in England since 1969. The only reason I decided to do this is because it's a great festival. I love Rob Da Bank for making it a great success story."

The festival concluded with a massive fireworks display.
