Ellen DeGeneres stole the show on Sunday's Academy Awards, we look at how far she has come since her early days on the comedy circuit in the 1980's.
Ellen Degeneres has become the most popular and loved television host in the States, cemented by her flawless performance hosting the Academy Awards on Sunday night. Ellen had the celebrities roaring with laughter as well as, at one stage, gathered together for a selfie. Ellen’s superstar selfie was retweeted over 2,000,000 times, crashing the server and making it the most retweeted pic of all time.
Ellen and her wife Portia have been married since 2008
Ellen had previously hosted the Oscars back in 2007, but even by then she had been in the business for over 20 years. Ellen started in the stand up biz back in the early 1980’s, before getting her own sitcom Ellen in 1994. During the fourth season of the sitcom, Ellen publicly announced that she was a lesbian during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Her character in the sitcom shortly followed suit and, in an episode called “The Puppy Episode”, which received some of the highest-ratings that Ellen had had so far, also came out. The show then went on to tackle some issues faced by the LGBT community, but after another season the show was axed due to falling ratings.
After the cancellation of Ellen, DeGeneres returned to her roots in stand up comedy before establishing herself as a television host and going on to have her own talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which has been running since 2003. Ellen regularly hosts A-List celebrities on her show, and her warmth and sharp, yet inoffensive, sense of humor has secured her solid friendships with the stars. This was no time more evident than at Sunday’s Oscars which saw Ellen laughing and joking with the attendees, calling them by nicknames and generally being an all-round breath of fresh air.
Ellen DeGeneres Could Be Asked Back as Oscar Host.
She may have found herself as an A-Lister in the process, but Ellen’s down to earth approach is what makes her so truly lovable. We’re pretty sure that Ellen’s wife Portia De Rossi would agree with us there. The pair were married in 2008 and are definitely one of the cutest celebrity couples on the Hollywood block.
There were some priceless Ellen moments at the awards show on Sunday and we sincerely hope Ellen is invited back to host again very soon. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane hosted the Oscars last year, and outrageous as he is, we can’t imagine finding it half as funny to watch him waddle out on stage dressed as Glenda the Good Fairy from The Wizard of Oz.
Ellen is a truly inspirational woman and a real role model for young women every. Bravo, Ellen!
