Ella Henderson's career feels like an ''apprenticeship''.

The 19-year-old singer - who shot to fame when she competed on 'The X Factor' in 2012 - always intended to try and make it in the music industry when she reached her 20s, so to have achieved success already feels ''mad'' to her.

She said: ''My plan for my twenties was to go to a record label and pitch my songs as a songwriter.

''Starting it early has been like an apprenticeship. Basically, it's been mad.''

The 'Ghost' hitmaker knows she is regarded as a role model but doesn't let it put extra pressure on her.

Asked if being a role model is weird, she told LOOK magazine: ''You take that on board with the job, but I don't put any pressure on myself.

''I'm confident in my own skin. I'm bound to make mistakes as I'm only 19 years old.''

And Ella doesn't worry about people's expectations as she just wants to enjoy her career.

She said: ''I have to just let it go because otherwise I'm never going to enjoy what I do - and that is music, writing, getting on stage and performing.

''I'm quite thick-skinned anyway. You only really see me express my true emotions if you've known me for years.''
