This year's Brit Award nominations features a few surprises...
The 2015 Brit Award nominations have finally been announced with, it seems, a few surprises alongside the obvious candidates. There's no prizes for guessing who's come out on top for this year's list of award-winning possibles.
Sam Smith leads nominations
Awards season rears its ominous head for another year, with some major ceremonies - in both film and music - having already taken place. We've seen prizes sent out for 2014's films; I.e. Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice Awards, People's Choice Awards, AFI Honours; and now it's time for music, with the BBC Sound of 2015 having already taken place and now The Brits and the Grammys have unveiled their candidates.
One of Britain's most talented young singers, Ella Henderson, has earned her first ever No.1 U.K. alum with her debut release 'Chapter One,' which features the chart topping single 'Ghost' and top ten track 'Glow'.
Ella Henderson, The X Factor alumnai's, first studio album reached the top spot by outselling its nearest rival by 16,000 copies, and becoming the second fastest-selling female debut record of 2014, just falling behind Sam Bailey's 'Power Of Love.'
Ella Henderson's debut album is going down well with fans
"To be a part of the music industry as a whole is something I'm learning to embrace, just seeing my name up there with other artists I admire and look up to is so surreal in itself," Ella Henderson told the Official Charts Company, "being Number 1 with my very first album is where a dream has met reality- it's a moment in time I will never forget."

Ella Henderson says she is "completely overwhelmed" by the success of 'Ghost' - which is the biggest hit of summer 2014.
Ella Henderson's 'Ghost' is officially the biggest song of the summer after shifting an incredible 578,000 copies between June and August. The former X-Factor contestant notched up her first No.1 with the catchy pop tune and we should expect the song to hover in the Top 40 for the next couple of months, given its prominent use on the new season the singing show.
Ella Henderson's 'Ghost' was a massive hit
Ella told Official Charts: "I am completely overwhelmed by the success of Ghost! To have one of the biggest selling songs of the year is absolutely insane. It doesn't feel real. I can't thank everyone enough for all the support. Thank you!"

What will this change mean for the way the charts are compiled?
After a veritable explosion in the usage of online music streaming services over the past few years it has recently been announced that the UK singles chart will incorporate streaming sites into its accumulation of data. Previously, the chart was completed by both physical and online sales but the new-fangled incorporation of streaming services looks set to alter the makeup of the singles chart forever. What’s more, the fact that streaming services are being incorporated highlights a distinct shift in the way consumers are choosing to listen to music- eschewing physical and even digital purchases in favour of instant access to vast archives of music from a myriad of eras and styles.

Ariana Grande is the UK charts' first streaming champion.
As of this week, Ariana Grande can chalk up another achievement – her single Problem isthe first UK Number One in the Official Singles Chart based on sales as well as streaming data.
Ariana Grande's Problem is the first UK Number 1 that got there through streaming.
This is the very first week when streaming data was counted, with the idea of providing a more accurate picture of the actual popularity of a single. The streaming data is taken from services like Spotify, Napster, Deezer, O2 Tracks, Music Unlimited (Sony’s service) and Xbox music and added to the count, with 100 plays being equal to one physical or digital purchase.

Ella Henderson managed to hold off '5 Seconds of Summer' to maintain the top spot.
Ella Henderson had maintained her position at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Ghosts’, meaning Australian boy-band 5 Seconds of Summer had to settle for No.2 with new single ‘Don’t Stop’. The boys from down under had led the chart for most of the week but Henderson managed to shift 3,000 more copies.

Ed Sheeran fell one place to No.3 with ‘Sing’, while George Ezra achieved his highest charting position so far with ‘Budapest’ going in at No.4. The seemingly immovable Sam Smith completed the top five with ‘Stay With Me’. Elsewhere in the chart, Gorgon City scored their second top ten single with ‘Here For You’ featuring Laura Welsh. The band had previously reached No.4 with ‘Ready For Your Love’.

The big prize you get for winning The X Factor has always been an enormous record deal, plus the exposure and immediate fan base created by the show which is meant to ensure instant success. However, as the series have gone on, missing out on being the top of the pile doesn't mean you miss out on the rest of the fun, this year has proven it more than ever as runner up Jahmene Douglas has signed a deal with Sony, and both Union J and Ella Henderson have also been snapped up by the same company, and neither of them even made it to the final week.
Twitter is still the dominant platform for celebs to express their emotions and there's no change for these artists. Jahmene said:
