Grammy-winning singer-songwriter MARC COHN was shot during an alleged carjacking attempt in Denver, Colorado, on Sunday night (07AUG05).

Denver police say authorities were chasing a man, who was suspected of failing to pay at a hotel, when he attempted to carjack the vehicle the WALKING IN MEMPHIS singer was in.

US TV show ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT quotes police as saying the suspect fired two shots, one of which struck Cohn in the temple.

The musician, married to American newswoman Elizabeth Vargas, was taken to a hospital, treated and released yesterday morning (08AUG05).

According to a spokesperson, police have identified a suspect but no arrests have been made.

A statement from Vargas' TV network ABC reads, "All of us at ABC News are thinking of Marc and Elizabeth at this time and wish Marc a speedy recovery. Elizabeth has made her way to Denver to be with Marc, and they are likely to return to New York in the next couple of days."

Cohn and Vargas were introduced by tennis star Andre Agassi at the US Open in 1999 and married soon after.
