After entering rehab for a second time earlier this week, the ABC News anchor is now planning a divorce with her husband of 12 years.
Elizabeth Vargas is going through a tremendously tough time as of late, the ABC News anchor has split from her husband of 12 years, singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, as she continues her battle against alcoholism in rehab.
Vargas and Cohn are divorcing after twelve years of marriage
Earlier this week, Vargas confirmed that she has been forced to check back into a rehabilitation facility on Saturday (Aug 16th) to seek further treatment for alcohol abuse as she struggles to maintain her sobriety.
This personal struggle will undoubtedly have affected the 51 year-old '20/20' co-anchor's family, especially her two sons Zachary, 11, and Samuel, 8, and it seems their marriage just couldn't bare it any longer as they are now planning a divorce.
"Marc and Elizabeth are in divorce proceedings," a source recently told People Magazine. "The kids are with him in New York while she seeks treatment."
However, Cohn is still fully supporting Vargas through journey to remain sober. "On behalf of Elizabeth's family," the singer also told the mag. "We are in total support of her recovery and want her to be well."
From her own statement, it is clear that being an alcoholic, and now her marriage ending has had a huge impact on Vargas. "I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry," she said. "I am committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this trying time."
