Elizabeth Taylor (27.02.32 - 23.03.11) Elizabeth Taylor was an English/American actress, best known for her performance as a child actor, as well as becoming a major screen actor during the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Net Worth: According to The Richest, at the time of her death in 2011, Elizabeth Taylor had a net worth of 600 million USD.
Childhood: Elizabeth Taylor was born at 8 Wildwood Road, Hampstead Garden Suburb, London, to Sara Sothern and Francis Lenn Taylor. Both of Taylor's parents were Americans who originated from Arkansas City, Kansas; this gave Taylor dual citizenship. At the age of three, Taylor began taking ballet lessons and when she was seven, her family moved back to the US to avoid possible conflict, as World War Two was on the horizon.
Career: Taylor's family moved to Los Angeles, where her father's art gallery brought in many members of the Hollywood circuit. Once Taylor had been discovered, numerous studios wanted her to screen test for their films, with her finally appearing in the 1942 Universal film, 'There's One Born Every Minute'. In the following year, she appeared in the MGM film 'Lassie Come Home'. The film led to a seven year contract with MGM. For her first role in this contract, she was loaned to 20th Century Fox to appear 'Jane Eyre' the same year. The following year she appeared in 'White Cliffs of Dover' for MGM.
With her appearance in the 1944 film 'National Velvet', Taylor became a huge success and a publically recognised child star at the age of 12. The success of the film caused MGM to draw up a new contract with Taylor, and also placing her in the movie 'The Courage of Lassie'. When she turned 16, Taylor decided that she wanted to quite acting, yet her parents convinced her otherwise. She went on to make a natural transition from child acting to adult roles, with her appearance in the 1949 film, 'Conspirator'. She then moved on to appear in 'The Big Hangover' and 'Father of the Bride' in the following year.
After a collection of successful roles throughout the early 1950s, Taylor was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress four years in a row, beginning with her 1957 performance in 'Raintree County', followed by 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof', 'Suddenly Last Summer' and 'BUtterfield 8' in the following years. 'BUtterfield 8' was the first time Taylor won the award, and also marked the end of her contract with MGM. In 1960, Taylor became the highest paid actress of her time for 'Cleopatra', signing a contract with 20th Century Fox for 1 million USD to star in the film.
In 1966, Taylor earned her second Academy Award for 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' Following this, Taylor saw poor results at the box office in 'Doctor Faustus' (1967), 'The Comedians' (1967) and 'Boom!'(1968). With the release and subsequent failure of 'The Only Game in Town' (1970), it appeared to everyone that Taylor's box office draw had diminished. Taylor continued to appear in films throughout the 1970s, however she failed to see any major success. Throughout the 1980s, she began to appear in more television roles, and in 1994, Elizabeth Taylor appeared in her final theatrical film, 'The Flintstones'.
Personal Life: Between 1950 and 1996, Taylor was married eight times to seven husbands. This began with Conrad Hilton between May 1950 and January 1951. Following that, Taylor married Michael Wilding in February 1952 and the couple separated in January, 1957. The following month, Taylor married Mike Todd, yet the marriage was cut short when Todd died in March, 1958. In May, 1959, she married Eddie Fisher, Todd's best friend, and they remained married until March, 1964.
Aside from Todd and jewellery, Richard Burton was one of the three, true, great loves of Taylor's life. The couple married March, 1964 - just nine days after Taylor's marriage with Fisher ended - and the couple were together until June, 1974. The couple then privately remarried in October, 1975, although by July, 1976, they had split again. Taylor married John Warner in December, 1976, and stayed with him until November, 1982. Finally, Taylor was married to Larry Fortensky from October, 1991 until October, 1996. In that same year, she appeared on a television show that referred to her as "Elizabeth Taylor-Hilton-Wilding-Todd-Fisher-Burton-Burton-Warner-Fortensky".
Death: On the 23rd March, 2011, Elizabeth Taylor died from Congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was buried at the Jewish cemetery - Forest Lawn Memorial Park - in Glendale, California, the following day. She was brought in 15 minutes after the funeral was scheduled to start at her own request as, as her family told the media, "She even wanted to be late for her own funeral."

The late King of Pop isn't just the top earning dead celebrity, but the highest earning celeb of the last year in total
In it's most recent list of top celebrity earners, Forbes has named Michael Jackson as the highest earning dead celebrity of the last year. With his estate earning an estimated $160 million between October 2012 and June 2013, not only is Michael the top earning dead celebrity, but the top earning celebrity in general.
Michael Jackson tops the list once again
Michael's earnings over the last year amount to $35 million more than the top-placed living celebrity, Madonna, who Forbes estimates earned $125 million between 2012 and 2013. As reported by Forbes, this marks the "third time in the past five years" that a dead celebrity has been crowned the highest earner of the year. How appropriate for a list that is released just before Halloween.

The pair combine for this highly anticipated TV movie
The BBC Four biopic Burton And Taylor will - as Drama Commissioning Controller Ben Stephenson puts it – see them "go out with a bang,” of original drama, anyway. The TV movie details the relationship between Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor during the Noël Coward play Private Lives.
"I nearly didn't take the role," Bonham-Carter admitted to Vogue. "When I first found out about it, I thought, 'Elizabeth Taylor? I should run a mile.' Even my mum said, 'Don't touch that with a barge pole.' But it was the script that won me over - it was such a touching, sweet story. The fact that it was about two of the world's most famous stars was incidental."

Helena swaps Tim for Richard: the first image of the BBC's Burton and Taylor, airing later this year, has been released.
The first picture has been released by the BBC showing Helena Bonham-Carter and Dominic West in full costume as one of Hollywood's most famous couples - Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor - ahead of the airing of brand new Burton and Taylor feature-length television biopic.
The snap shows the pair affectionately united in sumptuous shades of blue and purple, with fur and diamonds adorning Bonham-Carter; who is married to Edward Scissorhands director Tim Burton and turned 47 in May.
Gina Lollobrigida also broke the record set by Elizabeth Taylor for auctioned earrings.
Jewlery belonging to the Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida, who became a leading sex symbol in the 1950s and 1960s, has sold at auction for $4.9 million. The auction held in Geneva set a record for pearl earrings, auctioneer Sotheby's said.
A pair of diamond and natural pearl earrings sold for $2.37 million, beating the previous figure of $1.98 million for natural pearl earrings by Bulgari, owned by the late actress Elizabeth Taylor. Other prize items of Lollobrigida's collection included a Bulgari necklace and bracelet combination and a Bulgari ring featuring a 19.03-carat cushion-shaped diamond. Each sold for $776,000. The 85-year-old actress, who was raising money for advanced stem cell research in Italy, said, "Jewels are meant to give pleasure and for many years I had enormous pleasure wearing mine.Selling my jewels to help raise awareness of stem cell therapy, which can cure so many illnesses, seems to me a wonderful use to which to put them."
The jewlery formed part of Sotherby's 'Magnificent Jewels and Nobel Jewels' auction, held in Geneva after going on display in London, New York and Rome. Overall, the auction of over 600 gems and jewlery fetched $78.2 million.

Speaking at the unveiling, Welsh actor Michael Sheen, who attended the ceremony with the Hollywood pair’s adopted daughter, Maria, recalled how he felt when they visited his hometown. "The same beach that I built my boyhood sand castles and learned to flailingly swim, it was that same beach, that one legendary day, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor descended from the heavens, like gods from Olympus, in a helicopter ... and landed on those sands," Sheen said. "They stepped out swathed in luxurious fur coats - it was the '70s - and walked among us for too short a time." The unveiling was pertinently held on the the 50th anniversary of their film, Cleopatra. Speaking after the unveiling, Ms Burton said: "I am very proud and very touched by this. I look at the plaque and it brings tears to my eyes."
The Liz and Dick Reviews are out, and while Lindsay Lohan has been in the news for things other than her questionable acting talents, namely getting into fights with her mother and lying to the police, it's time to appraise what she's supposed to be famous for: pretending to be someone else.
Sadly, for Lindsay anyway, it appears that her penchant for unlawful and unsavoury activity remains more prevalent and accomplished than her turn as Elizabeth Taylor in Lloyd Kramer's Liz and Dick. "It should come as no great surprise that Lifetime's Liz & Dick movie starring Lindsay Lohan is spectacularly bad. After all, it's Lohan, more memorable in the tabloids than she ever was as an actress," say The Hollywood Reporter in their review, adding, "Lohan is woeful as Taylor from start to finish. But, whatever you do, don't miss Liz & Dick. It's an instant classic of unintentional hilarity. Drinking games were made for movies like this." The 'bottom line' in this review states: "Both an awful mess and an instant classic of unintentional hilarity." Entertainment Weekly, who give films a grade much like a school test, award the film a C-, and say ,"Lohan, who has squandered years of promise and talent as a sullen-faced party girl and irregular arrestee, has been cut so many breaks, it's difficult to root for her anymore. But there's still a vulnerable quality to her -- the same sensitive-soul aspect to her gaze that's been there since she starred in The Parent Trap (1998) -- that keeps one's hope alive."
We're going to stop now, as you get the idea; it's basically terrible, but could be fun when completely drunk, although we wouldn't want to advocate the excessive use of alcohol, we'll just let Lindsay's antics do that for us. Liz & Dick airs Sunday, November 25 at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
E! reports Forbes' annual list of top-earning dead celebrities is topped by Taylor, being worth a hefty $210 million, which beats out Jackson, who stands at #2 with $145m. Much of the income her estate has generated has been largely due to Christie's record-setting auction last year of Taylor's jewellery and art, which netted $184 million. The rest of the loot comes from her property sales and movies like Cleopatra and Around The World in 80 Days. The legendary actress will receive even more buzz when Liz & Dick, the Lifetime biopic starring Lindsay Lohan, premieres on Sunday, Nov. 25, while record sales and movie appearances account for MJ's riches. Another king, this time presiding over the rock 'n roll mantle, Elvis Presley still boasts $55m despite being dead since 1977.
'Peanuts' creator Charles M. Schulz comes in at #4 with $37 million and reggae great Bob Marley at #5 with $17 million. The rest of the top 10 look something like this: singer-songwriter John Lennon at #6 with $12 million, actress Marilyn Monroe and scientist Albert Einstein at #7 with $10 million, children's book author Theodore Geisel at #9 with $9 million and actor Steve McQueen at #10 with $8 million.
