Olmos co-starred with Lopez in Selena, the 1997 biopic of late singer Selena Quintanilla, and he believes the Jenny From The Block hitmaker has neglected her Latina heritage since the breakthrough starring role launched her to international fame.
She is now a singer, actress, talent show judge, executive producer of Tv show The Fosters and founder of mobile brand Viva Movil.
Olmos says on Spanish-language gossip show Suelta La Sopa that Lopez, who has Puerto Rican parents, is proud of her ancestry but does not like being limited by it, and he is sad she is not more focused on helping her culture.
He says, "(Selena took her) to a stardom that she would not have been able to reach without that film. I told her, 'You have to understand that the future is in your hands and hopefully you will not only use it to get yourself ahead but to get what we represent ahead, being a Latina woman.'
"She's done a lot of things but she hasn't dedicated herself to her culture, and that's very important to me."
