Ed Sheeran has celebrated his birthday by releasing a song online to his fans, one that he had apparently forgotten that he had written!

The ever-popular English singer-songwriter turned 26 years old on Friday (February 17th), and he marked the occasion by digging up an unreleased track from his archive, titled ‘How Would You Feel (Paean)’, describing it as “one of my favzzzzz”. As you can expect, it’s classic Sheeran through and through.

Suffolk-born Sheeran told Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 radio show that he discovered the track lying around in his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn’s e-mail inbox.

“My partner came back to Suffolk and on her way to the airport I wrote that song, recorded it on an iPhone, sent it to her and forgot about it.”

On completing the recording of his new album Divide (which comes out on March 3rd), Sheeran said that he then asked his girlfriend what she thought was her favourite one of his songs. “My favourite song you don't actually know exists,” she replied, according to Ed, and so he quickly recorded it and bolted it on to the end of the album.

“I went in and recorded it very quickly and produced it all up and it's one of my favourite songs on the record,” he told Lowe.

Meanwhile, as Sheeran announced the new track, which follows singles ‘Castle On the Hill’ and ‘Shape of You’, he revealed that fans around the world had teamed up with food artist Prudence Staite to create a huge Pizza Express-themed ‘cake’ made from the Calabrese pizza, which boasted his face and a guitar.

“As it’s my birthday I dropped a new song called How Would You Feel (Paean), give it a listen while I eat some cake x,” he wrote on Twitter later on Friday.
